Email Your Class Through Pilot

Use Pilot to send email to…

Pilot sends your messages to your students’ Wright State email addresses. The return address is your Wright State email address. So although you send a message from within Pilot, after that it’s outside of Pilot in the Wright State email system. However, a copy of any email you send from within Pilot is kept in the Sent Mail folder.

One warning: your class has to be active in order to use the email tool.

Email Your Whole Class

  1. Click “Classlist” on your course’s navigation bar.
  2. Click the “Email Classlist” button, which is in the row of buttons just below the page title “Classlist.”
  3. Scroll to the the bottom of the list of students and click “Send Email.”
  4. In the “Compose New Message” window, you’ll see all your students’ email addresses in the “Bcc” field. That’s normal. That way students will only see their own email addresses in the message header, not all the addresses of everyone in the class. You don’t need to put anything in the “To” or “Cc” fields.
  5. Notice that the “Subject” line already has the course number and name filled in. We recommend that you keep those to make it easier for students to find email from your course. Add some keywords after the name of the course, if you wish.
  6. After you compose your message, find the “Send” button at the top of the window—you may have to scroll up—and send your email on its way.
